FAQ

- Who are you and what did you have to do with Strike Witches?
My name is Dan Kanemitsu and I am a translator. I did some very minor supplemental production assistance for the 2nd season of Strike Witches. I've translated Takeshi Nogami's Strike Witches doujinshi series.

- Why are the girls in Strike Witches not wearing pants?
This is an alternate reality where people dress differently.

- Will there be more of XX of Strike Witches in the future?
I can only reveal information that is publicly available Japan, so please find out yourself.

- Are you going to be doing more translations of Strike Witches projects?
I have no say in the matter. I am perfectly willing to consider working on something, but parties who have control over the material have to approach me on doing any translation.

- Is this (or anything else) canon to Strike Witches?
There is only one thing that is canon to Strike Witches, and that is the work produced by Mr. Humikane Shimada. He created the concept, everyone else ran with it, some with official approval, some without. Some works originally considered "fan based" were later incorporated into the official world. Much has not. What I author are my own creations where I work hard to make them fit into the world of Strike Witches to the best of my abilities in an approach that I feel works the best. Nothing less, nothing more.

- Why aren't fan publications by you and other more easily available outside Japan?
Distributing doujinshis overseas is not easy. If trustworthy venues come into being, I may take advantage of them.

- Why aren't your books available electronically?
Eventually some titles that I've created could be made available electronically. I've already published an entire story in English on my blog. I am do more in the future, but I have no plans of selling my books electronically.

- Why aren't other doujinshi made available electronically by their creators?
Doujinshis are considered by many in Japan to be a personal medium of creativity. They want to create and share it with a limited number of people. Not everyone creates something for a larger audience.

- Why aren't you translating more of your stuff into English?
I hope to translate more of my stuff into English when time permits.

- Why can't you portray events of World War 2 more accurately?
This is a work of fiction, with an emphasis on entertainment. If you want accurate retellings of World War 2, I strongly suggest you go else where. Furthermore, I highly suggest those interested in the history of World War 2 to be careful about learning about actual events that took part in World War 2 from works of fiction, regardless of the subject and creator/s.

- Are you a Nazi sympathizer?
No, I am not. I reject all radicalist political ideology of every persuasion that attempts to limit core human rights and freedoms of others, particularly in cases where parties attempt to enhance their self-interest while exploiting others through direct and unilateral means.

- Don't you have any qualms about glorifying the Germans, the Japanese, the Italians and other belligerents of World War 2?
I am well aware of the atrocities committed by nearly ALL parties involved in the hostilities of World War 2. As I have stated elsewhere, this is a work of fiction that is very loosely inspired from the drama involved in the course of World War 2. There are many excellent works that deal with the failings in human morality and questionable judgements that were made during World War 2. The works published by the doujinshi publishing circle "8th Panzer Regiment" will not be a good source regarding analysis of the true historical consequences of World War 2.

- I still think this stuff is wrong, and you should think so as well.
I fully support your right to voice your opinions, disapproval or otherwise, at my creations. For that same reason, I hope you will also respect my right to pursue my creative endeavors however way I see fit. While I believe my work merits acceptance as a fictional entertainment piece that adds to the diversity of human imagination, I realize not everyone will agree with me. I humbly promise that I will do my best to try to provide something that many will enjoy, but I will not attempt to create something everybody will approve simply for the sake of approval.
