Kotobukiya's Zoids Model Kits
(Photographs and text by Dan Kanemitsu.)

Unlike the original Zoids still being sold by Tomy [now merged with Takara as Takara Tomy,] Kotobukiya's Zoids are static plastic models.
The joints are movable, so you can change the poses a lot, but this kits are designed to look good as display models for grown-ups as opposed to walking toys for kids as is the case with the original Zoids.
The nice news is that these Zoids are in the same 1/72 scale as their toy counterparts, so it will be very easy to incorporated parts from the original Zoid like into these models from Kotobukiya.

The new Kotobukiya Shield Liger.
The number of parts included in this kit is simply staggering.  I was amazed at the fact the box was "heavy" when I bought mine in Tokyo.

Here's me holding up a sample of the Shield Liger built up.
No painting needed to get it look this good.

One of the new kits announced was this special edition of the Shield Liger.
This is the Desert Liger, which is essentially the same as the Desert Liger, except for its coloring.

The mold colors will be different for this kit.  As I understand, it will be only available through certain distribution chains.
