Dragon's new 1/72 Sd.Kfz. 251/1 ausf C and D.

The spures of the new Sd.Kfz. 251 kit.

You can tell this kit is very much dependent on slide mold technology.

The tracks.  Probably DS 100.
Incredibly, the look very very real.  The shape is just like the real thing, even better than the Hasegawa soft tracks as far as I can tell.

Closeup of the 251's spures.  This one is probably common to both ausf C and D.

Another close up.  This one is also probably common between the two ausf's.  The MG was beautiful.

Here we have the ausf C spure.

And this is the ausf D spure.

Another two kits that were announced by Dragon was the 1/72 T-34/85 and Bergetiger (Porsche) or should it be called a Bergeelephant?

Another shot of what Dragon is calling a Bergetiger (P).

Some shots of the Dragon's T-34/85.  The lighting was not all good.

I wonder how many T-34 ended up with configurations like this...

Cando's version of Dragon's Humvee's premade and prepainted.  While it appears the model itself is the same as the Dragon Armor version of premade Humvee, the Cando version is much cheaper, at least in Tokyo.

The old Eidai/Grip 1/76 Secret German Base.
The molds are right now in the hands of Arii (more famous for their N gauge train lines at this point) but they only produced this kit in small batches, so they are not easy to find, even in Japan.

The kit has been sold now as "1/72 German Strongpoint."  The last time I know it was manufactured was 2003, but according to the people at the booth, the did another production run in 2005.

I actually have this kit, and I do like it very much.  I usually do not collect 1/76 vehicles, but I must admit I think the Eidai kits had a distinct charm to them.  They were not complex kits, but they were cheap and very easy to put together, plus they looked pretty darn good for their price.

The upper removable portion of the secret base.
I wonder how this kit would look if you added a considerable amount of detail and latest 1/72 kits.

1/72 scale fictional models, other scale military kits, etc.

Tasca's 1/72 "Akuyaku Ichigou" (or Bad Guy Number 1.)  They took Hayao Miyazaki's fanciful imaginary tank and made a kit.  This tank has been popular among many Japanese fans ever since it first appeared in Model Graphix in the early 1980's.

A cutaway that was made based on the Tasca's kit.

Diorama featuring BG-I.  This was featured in Japanese modelling magazine recently.

More photographs of the cutaway.

The kit does not come in a cutaway version.

Miyazaki, long famous for his masterful animation films, is actually a weapons buff.  He especially likes preWW2 equipment.

The BG-I is a wonderful example of Miyazaki's keen understanding of weapon systems prior to WW2.

This diorama is a recreation of artwork that was drawn by Miyazaki.

I'm sure it goes without saying, but the BG-I is a fictional tank.  All the crew are depicted as pigs but really do not point toward any specific nation.

Fujimi's 1/144 Gustav/Dora.
They weren't selling any this year, but according to the person at the booth they were available last year as completed items.  The cost something like 70,000 yen, they said.

Fujimi's 1/144 Gustav/Dora.
I'm sure the person looking was thinking the same thing I was thinking: "Where in my room would I keep this thing...?" (smile)

I realize I don't have the space, but really wish someone would do one in 1/72...

I just love the juxtaposition of anime mecha and real hardware...
